Tom Brady Says Leather Glove is More of an Ode to Murder than Fashion
“Let’s be clear, this isn’t about fashion,” Brady clarified. “This is about honoring the Titans of this city. The individuals who took control of their own lives in bold, irreversible ways...”
According to Brady, the glove represents a level of “decisiveness” and "elite execution" that he feels is currently lacking in the modern NFL. He spoke at length about the "mechanics of the grip" and the psychological shift that occurs when one slides on the glove.
“Once you put it on, things are happening, and they're happening fast. It’s a binary state: before the glove and after the glove,” Brady explained, ignoring a prompt from Kevin Burkhardt to talk about the Bills' red zone efficiency.
“You don’t have time to consider the optics. You just go for it. You ride your emotions in the moment. There’s no second guessing. No going back. Just total, 100% follow-through. A lot of young players in the league today talk and post about work, this is about working in the shadows. When no one is watching. No witnesses.”
Brady was asked if the symbolism was an intentional reference to the late O.J. Simpson.
Brady didn't blink. He simply looked down at his hand, adjusted the glove to show how form fitting it was, and continued on with a blank stare.
“If the public thinks this is about fashion, then I’d have to plead non-guilty to that,” Brady said. “This is about legacy. It’s about the stories we tell and the ones we bury, because we don't like the endings. And sometimes… legacy is a tricky thing. It doesn't always fit exactly the way you want it to.”
